The project aims at reinforcing the human rights of 60 adolescents in socioeconomic crisis in the highlands of Chiapas by implementating life skills workshops that strengthen education, values and nutrition. The students will be better equipped for the labor field. We promote consistency and their reintegration to school. Not only the teenagers learn skills that give them better job opportunities instead of working in the streets. They receive a healthy daily snack to improve their overall diet.
Young people face daily, discrimination, violence, malnutrition, risks of trafficking or internal migration, school dropout, drug use and illegal work compromising their identity as subjects. 80% of the beneficiaries enrolled in the programs offered by Chantiik are inhabitants of the "extreme poverty belts" in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas. Recognized by the Mexican State as a sector presenting a vulnerable population undermining young people's process towards adulthood.
Chantiik provides empowerment programs through 10 hours of workshops and weekly training to 60 beneficiaries. The workshops are carried out collectively covering a range of skills and topics including baking, computing, english, rights and values, gender equity, enabling them to develop their critical thinking and integration in the workfield. Also, a monthly school scholarship is given to encourage their consistent attendance. As well, a nutritious snack is daily prepared to improve their diet.
60 students will benefit from: - Academic skills (english, computing, reading, writing) - Hands-on activities (baking, cultivating plants, drawing) enhancing their abilities and daily habits - Developing their analytical thinking and self-esteem through rights and values - Increasing their academic and work opportunities - Knowledge of a healthy diet
