Sponsor Births progress till June 2012

By Vijaybhasker Srinivas | Project Leader

Sponsor Births initiative has so far raised US $33,080 to support the deliveries of poor pregnant women in high quality hospital settings. Without the support, these women have no access to institutional delivery – not even in the government hospitals as there are hidden costs here. By the end of June 2012, Sponsor Births project has supported the deliveries of 151 women. Another 31 poor women have been identified for sponsorship and their delivery is due in the coming months.

The women sponsored so far come from several disadvantaged backgrounds. While a majority of them stay in one room, several do not have access to safe-drinking water within the premises of living. Some of them are deserted by their husbands after they became pregnant owing to the increased costs that pregnancy brings in. As part of Sponsor Births initiative, the women are counseled about importance of the immunization of children and provide the children with vaccines sourced from the government.

Several of the women thank the unknown donors for the support and making their delivery a safe experience.

Sponsor Births thanks all the donors and requests them to spread the word. Sponsor births – Deliver smiles.
