By end of November 2011, LifeSpring Foundation, which is implementing sponsor births program, has been able to support 147 deliveries. As the women sponsored are very poor, these women have to be counselled to come for medical check-up during pregnancy. Several visits and interactions with different members of the family would be required to motivate these women to be regular for their check up during pregnancy. They need to be assured that their poverty would not come in the way of their institutional delivery as LifeSpring Foundation, and several donors who are supporting the cause of sponsor births, are willing to extend a helping hand. But more importantly, the women and their families have to be counselled to look after the child well, and to ensure that the child gets all the vaccinations.
LifeSpring Foundation did a quick check of the children, whose delivery was supported. Some of them are now six to eight months old and active. Mothers of all these babies have adhered to the vaccination schedule and the babies have received vaccinations provided by the Government as required. All the children are healthy, contributing to smiles in their families.
An example is Sadekhan, who delivered in July 2011. Despite poverty and several restrictive customs, Sadekhan is taking good care of her child. Her husband is a casual labour with uncertain work and income conditions. Her father, who was a poor man, met with an accident and could not support the family for some years. With the support of local donors, he started making snacks and is selling on the street corner in the evening for a livelihood. The child is active and growing normally. Sadekhan is now using weaning foods to provide the baby with the nutrition required. Sadekhan has also followed the vaccination schedule for her child till now.
Thus we say, “You sponsor births. We deliver smiles.” We thank all the donors who have supported us in delivering smiles, and request them to spread the happiness in sponsoring births.
