Update on Lifesaving project

By Muhammad Adamu Suleh | Project lead

Dear Friends and Donors,

We sincerely appreciate your continued interest and support for our Lifesaving Intervention Project. Our mission remains clear: to reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths by improving access to essential maternal healthcare services in hard-to-reach and underserved communities.

During this quarter, fundraising through GlobalGiving remained a major challenge. Following our previous report, we received less than $20 in donations through the platform. While we are grateful for every contribution, the amount raised was far below what is required to implement our planned activities, including training additional frontline health workers, procuring clean birth kits, and expanding maternal and newborn health interventions to more communities.

Despite this funding challenge, we remained determined to continue supporting vulnerable mothers. Through assistance mobilized from other sources, we were able to secure 200 clean birth kits, which were distributed to pregnant women in two underserved communities. These kits contain essential materials needed to promote clean and safer deliveries and reduce the risk of maternal and newborn infections, particularly in communities where access to adequately equipped health facilities remains limited.

This achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished when resources are available. However, the need remains much greater than our current capacity. Our goal for 2026 includes distributing 2,000 clean birth kits, training at least 100 additional frontline health workers in Basic Lifesaving Skills for Maternal and Child Health, and strengthening telehealth and professional mentorship for healthcare workers serving remote communities. With only 200 additional birth kits secured this quarter, many more pregnant women still need support.

We urgently need passionate donors to help us continue this lifesaving work. GlobalGiving remains one of our main channels for mobilizing donations for this project, and every contribution makes a difference. A donation can help us procure clean birth kits, train frontline healthcare workers, support safer deliveries, strengthen infection prevention, and extend lifesaving maternal and newborn healthcare to communities that are difficult to reach. Behind every birth kit is a mother preparing to give birth. Behind every trained health worker are women and newborns depending on that provider during some of the most critical moments of their lives. We therefore appeal to individuals, families, organizations, and other compassionate supporters to stand with us. Please consider donating to this project and sharing it with friends, colleagues, and networks who may be willing to support maternal and newborn health. Our team remains committed to ensuring that available resources reach the women and communities that need them most. With stronger donor support, we can reach more pregnant women, equip more frontline healthcare workers, and prevent avoidable maternal and newborn deaths.

Thank you for believing in this mission and for helping us give mothers and newborns in underserved communities a better chance to survive and thrive. Together, we can make childbirth safer and save lives.
