In the quiet neighborhood of Al-Dahiya, a mother of five is carrying the heavy burden of survival alone. Esraa’s world turned upside down when her husband was suddenly imprisoned, leaving the family without income or support. Until then, she had been a full-time caregiver, relying entirely on her husband’s earnings. With his absence, she was thrust into crisis, unprepared both emotionally and financially to take over the weight of the household.
Desperate to provide for her children, Esraa searched for work but found none. With every rejection, the despair deepened. When she began psychological support sessions, she was barely holding herself together. In the first meetings, Esraa was visibly broken, crying frequently, overwhelmed with anxiety, and expressing a deep sense of helplessness. Her children needed food, clothes, and school supplies, yet she had nothing to offer them. The shame of asking for help, and the fear of being judged by others, kept her silent and isolated.
As the days passed, the needs of her children grew more urgent, but Esraa remained trapped with no income, no job, no support network. She faced each day with the unbearable pain of watching her children go without the simplest things, unable to ease their hunger or meet their needs. Every attempt she made to change her situation seemed to end with another closed door.
Through Tomorrow Youth Organization’s emergency relief program, TYO’s psychosocial support team worked closely with Esraa to help her overcome her fear and stigma around seeking help. The first step was providing an emergency food package. When she received it, Esraa broke down in tears, not from despair, but from relief. “I didn’t know how to ask for help,” she said. “But this was the time I needed it the most. Thank you so much.”
The food package came during the holy month of Ramadan, when families traditionally gather around full tables. For Esraa and her children, it meant more than just nourishment, it meant dignity, hope, and a reminder that they are not alone.
But families like Esraa need more than one-time aid. They need sustained, compassionate support to rebuild their lives and give their children a chance at stability. With your continued generosity, we can ensure that no mother like Esraa has to face a crisis alone, and that every child has the chance to grow up with hope, security, and care.
