Life Skill and Sexuality Education for 1000 Girls (14480)
Update- November 2014
Last 3 months we were mostly involved in creating profiles of adolescent girls for our G2G-Girls to Graduates Programme. The idea is we wish to support 1000 girls to become graduates. This would not only help them get good employment but also postpone their marriage to the age to 21 years. We have also continued our computer skill and lifeskill and sexuality education programme.
G2G-Girls to Graduates: To select the deserving girls our staff members started collecting profiles of adolescent girls studying in 9th to 12th standard. We have collected 300 profiles and started computerizing it. Most of these girls are daughters of women headed families and daughters of domestic workers. We would support these girls by providing supplementary education support to score good marks and continue their education up the university undergraduate level. We have organized village and slum level meetings of mothers to explain our ideas. We have also organized an orientation programme for adolescent girls. 143 girls participated in 3 one day orientation programme.
Computer skill training: We are continuing our computer skill training programme. During this period 43 girls benefitted from this programme. 6 girls have started the online retail management course, but in the meantime our landlord of the computer training centre had requested to vacate the building because they want to build flats there. So we have shifted the training centre to our office premises. We made contacts with the local browsing centres and the girls are now continuing their online course there and we are paying the cost of the browsing center. We also had conducted 2 one day trainings on life skill and sexuality education for 50 girls.
Lifeskill, sexuality education training for adolescents: We have organized weekend workshops on life skill and sexuality education training for adolescent girls and 54 girls participated in these programmes. It was festival time ‘Diwali’ festival, ‘Snehidhi’ adolescent girls association members celebrated it in the centre. An intern from Christ university organized life skill workshops and also aptitude tests to help them understand what they want to do? To help them choose career of their choice. Girl children enjoyed it because there was lot of games and creative activities in these workshops. The intern along with our staff also visited corporates to get sponsors to support our G2G programme. Even though we could not find any sponsors immediately, it is good experience for us. As part of joy of giving week, from Ajuba a software company visited our organization and distributed learning materials to adolescent girls. Snehidhi members also performed a dance in a NGO meeting, it was really encouraging for them.
