During the first week of September, we visited the Agahozo Shalom Youth Village where we taught 48 students (equivalent in age to U.S. 11th grade students) on basic business and financial skills. The students were members of the Village's Business Club and were all interested in learning more about starting and operating a business and/or going on to University to continue their studies. We spent a great deal of one on one time with each of the students during our time there. These kids are considered the most vulnerable orphans in Rwanda as most of them lost at least one parent in the 1994 Genocides. Spending time with the kids was a very rewarding experience and I think it is safe to say we learned as much, if not more, from them than they learned from us. They are some of the most hardworking, dedicated and kind group of young people we have ever met. Our goal is to continue to stay involved with the students as they begin their final year of school at the Village and hopefully provide them assistance as they transition into the next phases of their lives after they graduate next year.
