By Patricia Osage | Executive Director -LIFE ElderCare
Have you been touched by happiness this year? I sure hope so, because you (YOU) have fed people who were malnourished right here in our own neighborhoods and that is a good thing. We took the dollars you gave us and we bought warm, nutritious meals. And then brought them to seniors' homes in the Bay Area.
Yup, the people that you fed are not the people who can get over to the local food bank or church food pantry. These are the homebound elderly; usually living alone. An thanks to all of you out there; our volunteers have handed each of them a meal every day this year so far.
You and 48 others have now donated $3,013. That means we only need $1,987 more to reach our goal of $5,000!
Thanks so very much for all that you have already done and don’t forget to tell just one family member of friend about our campaign. Many people think Meals on Wheels is ‘old-fashioned’ and that may be true, but perhaps that’s a good thing… because an entire year of meals can be served to a senior at the same cost as seven days in a nursing home. Think of all the tax dollars and other resources saved along with all the anguish and health issues avoided.Ours is a simple operation that helps almost a thousand seniors annually eat healthy while remaining in their homes.
Sometimes an old fashioned belief is proven to actually work- and this one works amazing well according to a new study by Brown University’s Center for Gerontology and Healthcare Research.
You are part of new approach on neighborhoods coming together to help our community’s elderly stay safe, connected and healthy at home. And this, we know, will touch you with happiness.
Sincerely,
