The Nguku Library Project has seen important developments over the past few months.
Our partners collected boulders from the community and broke them down into gravel for foundation and construction work. They were also able to aquire constuction stones and building permits. Beyond this, Berea College made available 14 Dell laptops with the possibility of more in the future.
Beyond this direct progression of construction, multiple events have been scheduled with the goals of supporting and raising funds for the Nguku library and orchard. These events include a benefit dinner made up of student organizations from the McCourt School of Public Policy, including the African Policy Students Association. In addition, the Library Committee in Nguku scheduled a community fundraising drive for September of this year. This summer, the library committee was also able to organize a parents' meeting and saw great turnout.
Importantly, the work we have been doing with the library project and the fundraising efforts from last fall were recently recognized by both Georgetown University and the McCourt School of Public Policy.
