Our two libraries in Jinja are both overseen by our partner women’s association, Lubanga Twero Women’s Group. We supply books, mics supplies, arts and crafts materials, and pay all the administrative costs; and the women oversee the day to day operations of the library including hiring the librarian. As we are a women’s empowerment organization, I was a little baffled that the ladies chose to hire MEN as our librarians, but it was their decision- and I must admit that the librarians they chose are exceptionally awesome.
Meet Peter. He is the son of Anwar- a member of Lubanga Twero Women’s group. He lives in a back room of the library and is amazing with the children. He is constantly organizing games, singing, dances, movie nights, education lessons, and fun ‘field trips’ for the kids to go on. He is passionate about his job and works diligently to improve the lives of the children and make his community a better place. He has even co-founded his own startup organization- Help One Child Uganda.
We are extremely grateful that Peter is part of our team. With his help, and with donations from people like you, we are making a brighter life for our children and our communities.
