We are excited to announce that Grassroots Uganda has paired up with Footsteps Through Africa, and we have helped start a new Library in Rubuguri, Uganda.
As we already have 5 libraries established with out Women's Groups and partners, we've deided to share the love of books with other like minded organizations. Footsteps is focused on education, litteracy, kindnes, and community empowerment, so we seem like a perfect match!
Footsteps constructed their own library complete with shelves. They partnered with a local HIV= women's group to make 'bean bags' made from saw-dust filled sugar sacks covered with colorful, local, bitenge cloth. All they were lacking was books. As they are located about 12 hours away from our home base in Mukono, meeting up was a bit tricky, but we finally managed to get together and we sent aproximately 1,500 books back with them to help stock their library.
The photos attatched are of the founder for Footsteps Jo Cooper, and the new library space soon to be filled with books.
