While in Liberia in August 2019, Village Improvement Project President held consultations with the Minister of Education and heads of private schools including the Catholic Diocese, Salvation Army, Firestone, and the Lutheran Church about the Liberian folktales books. As a result of these consultations, the book has now been redesigned into a reading series comprising of 25 separate booklets of two stories each.
The feedback we received in Liberia suggested that a single bound book of over 200 pages would not serve the needs of Liberian school children because most readers in Liberian schools are single-story editions of 4 to 6 pages of reading content. Hence, we decided to produce two-story booklets for easy consumption and access.
The sample printed books were shipped to Liberia in December 2019 for distribution and use in a public elementary school. We plan to do a longitudinal study on the use and impact of these stories in use by Liberian school children in the future.
