Inspire 1,000's of LGBT youth & allies in CT & US

Wow. What a difference you made! During our first ever GlobalGiving Campaign in the last couple of months of 2012, fifty-two generous and committed individuals like you, donated over $3,000 of their precious resources to help True Colors meet our mission to ensure that LGBT youth are welcome, valued and affirmed. 

During that time, True Colors:

• Served 55 LGBT youth in our mentoring program. Youth like Jessie.  We helped her find a respite home, a place to rest and be cared for during the holidays, while she and her incredible foster parents worked out all the paperwork issues for her to be able to move into her own apartment - which she did earlier this month. 
• Offered 6 social/recreational activities for 48 LGBT youth - like the rock climbing activity where one youth who participated was able to support and encourage a younger youth to make it all the way to the top of the climb. They both came away from the experience feeling great about themselves!
• Provided cultural competency training for 241 adults - this training helps youth serving professionals better meet the needs of the LGBT youth in their care.
• Worked to provide 67 LGBT and ally youth with the skills they need to advocate for themselves and others
• Launched the Safe Harbor Website. this website focuses on the needs of LGBT youth in out-of-home care and is hosted on the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families website: http://www.ct.gov/shp/site/default.asp?
• Plus, your support helped us move to a new location that is 1200 square feet bigger - has a conference room and an activity space - and costs $10,000 a year less than our old location.  We know that our new location will help us better serve our youth. We will be able to offer more activities - and train providers in-house - something many organizations and agencies have asked for.

We are very grateful for your support.  Please know, too,  that we work very hard to ensure that every dollar of your donation is used effectively in pursuit of our mission. More than 85 cents on every dollar you donate to True Colors is used for programs.
