As you can imagine, our response could not be more complex.
While we are actively responding to the urgent needs of survivors tortured by security forces, another emergency struck our community on the Syrian coast. Our focal point there narrowly survived a horrific massacre. Back-to-back crises followed, including devastating wildfires and the escalation in Sweida, where 12 of our beneficiaries remain trapped under siege.
Yet, despite everything, GEM continues to fight for our communities during their most dangerous and painful moments. Our response may feel like a drop in the ocean, but it is saving lives—against all odds.
Since the fall of the Assad regime, we have supported more than 150 individuals across Syria. Our efforts continue through multiple layers: advocacy, protection planning, emergency cash aid, mental health support, referrals, and ongoing accompaniment—all woven together to serve LGBTQIA+ people in urgent need.
If you can continue to support us, please do. Every contribution helps us reach someone whose life is at risk.
With solidarity,
Francois
