Girl Fund Campaign
With the aim of pushing the Pad project in Nepal and increase awareness about the topic of menstrual hygene ICA Japan decided to take part in GlobalGiving's Girl Fund Campaign 2020. The weeks of campaign preparation and the eight days of intense fundraising provided a great chance to increase ICA Japan's network and cooperation with new donors and supporters.
While promoting the project during the Girl Fund Campaign we established contact to the Everest International School (EISJ). EISJ is a small Nepalese curriculum-based school of over 200 students located in Suginami-ku. The medium of instruction is English. EISJ was established in 2013 under the management of Nepal Education Center. As the only Neplese Language School in Tokyo it serves as an important meeting point and center for the Nepalese community and with entering into closer cooperation contact with this institution, ICA Japan will be able to address the topic of Chhaupadi in more extensively in Japan as well as abroad in Nepal. Apart from informing the School's Vice-Principal about the project and ICA Japan's work in Nepal, we discussed ways of expanding this project, including school presentations, community events in Japan with the Nepalese community, and conducting educational presentations in Nepal itself.
Next to the very successful promotion at EISJ, the ICAJ Interns distributed flyer and posters in multiple Nepalese restaurants to create a more direct connection to the community and to reach as many Nepalese nationals as possible.
On-Site Visit
Our full-time staff went to Kathmandu in order to sign an agreement with the Japanese Embassy and ICA Nepal to determine the continuation of the project for the coming few years. To beable to continue working appropriately, the towns and locations of the ongoing projects were visited as well. Next to checking the current situation in the towns where the Chhaupadi projects are taking place, the newly built training centre which was constructed wih the help of ICA Japan was inspected and visited as well.
