Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Raising Programs Nepal

By Ishu Subba | Project Leader

In an effort to raise awareness in menstrual hygiene and sanitation, ICA Nepal has been reaching to many women’s groups and creating awareness.

Photo1: We reached more than 300 women from three women’s group namely Jawalamukhi Women’s Group, Pragati Women’s Group and Laligurans Women’s Group from Sindhupalchowk and Gorkha district. ICA Volunteers distributed the low cost sanitary napkins, and carried out community interactions and meetings with women’s groups on effective menstrual hygiene management.

Photo 3: Bags of sanitary napkin and information and education communication materials prepared for community interactions. Along with information on effective menstrual hygiene practice, information on personal hygiene and sanitation practice, information on nutrition were also disseminated. Volunteers practically demonstrated the seven ways of hand washing.

They are very much happy with ICA Volunteers on how the issues like simple daily practices, hygiene during the periods, hygienic and non-hygienic materials to use, and health risks associated with poor menstrual hygiene were discussed. How mothers can play a pivotal role and support their daughters in dealing with puberty were highlighted.

Join us, we have many more young girls up in the mountains where it is difficult to change their minds!
