It isn't always easy to put food on the table and tummies full! At Live and Learn in Kenya International we have the responsibility to provide meals for the children on every school day - and sometimes we really have to go that extra mile to raise the funds.
Sponsorship donations include food - but as time passes - the number of children on the program grows as well as the always bigger and stronger (and hungrier) growing children - prices are also growing! Everyone is suffering from the repercussions of the war in Ukraine - but very strongly so are the non-profit organizations whose costs are going sky high and donations are less than ever. Food has seldom been so expensive in Kenya. We're glad to have been able to rent a plot of farmland close by and have diligent and hard-working parents who volunteer their time to plant, weed, harvest, and dry the beans and maize and harvest the greens (sort of spinach). This way we are able to store kilos of dried beans and the maize is milled into cornmeal.
But it isn't enough. Other vegetables, fruits, milk, and meat must be bought for LLK to be able to provide good and nutritious meals for the children.
One of the media platforms used to raise funds is Second Life. On a virtual sim stage, very good and some very professional singers and musicians perform for free to raise funds to "Feed a Smile" - feed the Live and Learn in Kenya Kids. It isn't only a lot of fun, it is also a way of promoting our good cause and every donation is very appreciated.
Every meal donation means not going hungry that day - or the next - or the next - or the next! We're keeping tummies full and "feeding SMILES"!
ASANTE SANA - THANK YOU SO MUCH!
