From tears of hunger to showers of blessings

By James Aleko | Project Director

Childrens' life has taken a transformative turn for the better, after Cico Uganda - highlighted the impact of drought on rural communities.

Families that were pushed to the limits of human resilience by hunger. Overwhelmed and too weak to vocalise their pain, children in common shed tears of hunger. The mothers watched helplessly as this happened.

Faamilies broke into dead silent and almost deserted as children struggled to keep striving in a day. Slowly, one by one, they zoned off as hunger bit hard. Children, overwhelmed by the pangs of hunger, weakened by thirst and weighed down by the uncertainty of a meal, spoke for children in their community through their tears.

“We now happy because our families have something to eat at home. It was painful to write a story about food insecurity in our homes. Now, we are enjoying the sustainability efforts and advocacy of Cico Uganda because we are assured of eating at least two meals a day,” says the family heads (fathers) in rural communities.

Accedemically, children can now concentrate in class, unlike before, when most of them would doze off because they were usually too hungry to stay awake. The school attendance has also improved.

"We  now have 100% attendance unlike before, when most children would stay at home because of hunger. I have taught in this school for five years and during this period we have experienced just one sufficient rainy season. The water tanks were empty for a long time. But now, World Vision brings us water in a truck daily.  Before this intervention, we would go for days without water,” says Gift, a teacher at the school.

These interventions have been funded by our precious donors as well as GlobalGiving our dear partner, that amplified the voice of the voiceless and our work is a nonprofit. Continue to support our Food crisis Intervention and our projects of Cico Uganda (80) on GlobalGiving.

God Bless and Favour you.
