60 Sewing kits for 60 years

Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners has been helping to facilitate learning opportunities for more than 60 years.  To commemorate this milestone anniversary in 2025, several collections of “60” items that would be helpful to the people in Nicaragua were offered including the sewing kits.   The response from a variety of caring people more than doubled the initial goal and now that the sewing kits have reached the people in Nicaragua, the recipients are happy to share how they use the sewing kits and their feelings of gratitude.

“I keep the (sewing) kit with a lot of love because everything it contains is very useful for crafts, sewing, and many other things. I keep it tucked away; I only take it out when I use it and then put it back because there are children at home who might lose it. For example, we have several shades of thread, colors, and large sewing needles. I love using it and sharing it with my group of students. I am always grateful for all the help you send to us Nicaraguans. You do it with love and dedication, and perhaps we can't repay you for what you do for the people of Nicaragua, but we carry you in our hearts and minds, and we have a lot of affection for you. Greetings to all.” – Francis

“We know that everything you send us not only helps us a lot but also comes to our aid, since those kits we received were very complete, beautiful, and a great help. God bless you. A grateful hug.” - Eraida

“I bring my kit to any workshop because it's complete for our activities.” - Rosa

“Thank you for following our Sewing Courses. They have been incredibly useful for my children's clothing projects, thanks to the wide variety of colors, the needles and pins—so essential for sewing—and the scissors and seam rippers, so important for any seamstress. Thank you for all the love and effort you dedicate to promoting projects that truly change our lives and foster the overall well-being of us women.”  Chepita

“Thank you for everything you do and everything you send; it is very useful for us and our students.” – Mayra

“A very special thank you, because you are an important part of our achievements, for your affection, interest, and dedication to our people: promoting, contributing, and sending the donations with which we seamstresses work here.  I take this opportunity to thank you very much for the Sewing Kits you donated; they have been a great help in making my work easier when I am sewing. Blessings to all over there.” Enrique

“When I received the first kits, I was very happy because it had been a long time since we had given any donations to the leaders of the Learning Centers, and they were happy when they received them too. They don't sell these kinds of well-equipped kits here.  We are now sorting the donations received and assembling the kits found to be delivered to the participants of our Sewing courses here in the office.  Thank you to the donors for these wonderful gifts”  - Petronila

Because the sewing kit collection and distribution was such an impactful project, as we move into 61 years of collaborations with Nicaragua, we will continue to collect and send sewing kits for the people of Nicaragua.  You may make a donation, and we'll purchase the kits from Amazon or you can purchase or make up your own sewing kit and send to the Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners office, Room 129 Nelson Hall, UWSP,  Stevens Point, WI 54481

Thank you to everyone for your support as we continue to work with and help the people in Nicaragua in useful ways.

Working together, we make a difference!
