We would like to highlight one of the women (Yuri) who has attended the June Lemke Learning Center for eight years. She is so thankful for the Nicaraguan volunteers that she has met during her time at the Learning Center, they helped her get ahead and learn basic skills to improve the economy of her home. While at the Learning Center, Yuri made crafts to sell and obtained an income. She and other women are so thankful for Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners as it has become a pillar in their homes.
In her own community, San Isidro de la Cruz Verde, there is a lack of Learning Centers/places to motivate the youth. She wants to help young people and women learn skills that will help them be self-sufficient economically. This was the main reason why while still attending classes with the June Lemke Learning Center, she is starting crafts and English courses with children in her local community. In addition, they are trying to integrate adults, housewives, single moms, and people who did not finish high school, along with anyone who is willing to learn new trades to better their lives.W/NP has donated many items to improve the quality of their Learning Center, with a more comfortable environment, the children are motivated to put in effort on their English education and create more crafts. Since bettering their Learning Center, they have integrated eight more children, with a total of twenty.
The project first consists of transmitting the knowledge in diverse crafts and then give talks of motivation, self-esteem, entrepreneurship and bullying. They want to formally register as a Learning Center with Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners because their support is vital when it comes to helping others. You can help make this happen and Yuri would be forever thankful for your contribution. Lifting Up Through Learning helps others help themselves. Thank you!
