A vivid example of a true “Ripple Effect”
Thanks to a cooperative effort among many people, the sewing machine repair classes being offered through Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners in Managua, Nicaragua are in great demand more than ever before. For the past 15 – 20 years, the Home and Community Education (HCE) members have been outstanding in gathering sewing notions, fabric, and sewing machines to compliment and support the activity in the W/NP Learning Center program. As a result, the programs have increased in demand, thus also increasing the need to have the sewing machines in good working order, being cleaned properly and maintained on a regular basis.
Henry Gillis took note of this need for someone to be trained in sewing machine repair and made arrangements for one person, Moises, to travel from Nicaragua to Wisconsin and become trained in sewing machine repair by Norm Barber, Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Moises then returned to Nicaragua, passed on the training and knowledge he received to Sandra who is now passing it on to more and more students enrolled in the sewing machine repair classes. Isabel, who is facilitating the organization of the Learning Center workshops and classes plans to have at least one person in each geographic area that can be trained in sewing machine repair. It was a wonderful opportunity to see the classes in action last week and below are some photos to share with you. Thank you everyone for your continued support of this worthy program.
