You made 12 disabled people very happy, by the sea

Thanks to you we were able to support 12 people with learning disabilities, including Binita, David and Craig, to Cleethorpes on holiday over Easter. More than 70 people pitched in to raised just under £3k to make this possible.

We departed on Good Friday the 12 clients and 3 volunteers/staff met at Leicester train station. They took a crowded bank holiday train to Sheffield and changed to head to Cleethorpes. “I had never been on a train before, it was great” said Dan, one of the clients who went. They arrived at the caravan park in the afternoon and settled in to the 3 caravans. There was a girls caravan and 2 boys ones. Each had a member of staff staying in them too.

One of the main things that everyone was looking forward was their fish and chips, which they had on the first night. It wasn’t all takeaways though! The groups made each other food and drinks and practiced their cooking skills - something they don’t all get to do at home.

The groups also caught the bus into the centre of Cleethorpes, where they enjoyed spending time on the beach, in the arcades and shops and even played crazy golf.

Evenings were spent playing bingo on site and dancing at the disco. “I really enjoyed the bingo,” said Tom “ I know Hayley loved the discos too!”

Everyone agreed it was a great holiday. For many it was the first time they had been able to go away without family. “My mum will be enjoying time to herself,” said Binita “she needs a rest from me!”

Sanjay summed up the experience “It was very nice and I enjoyed it. I’d like to go again.”Umar was also on the holiday. He chimed in saying “It was good we got taken on holiday, I shared the caravan with nice people”.

We had such a lovely time that we decided to make a thank you video! Watch the video here

After such a fantastic trip, we’re already looking forward to making next year’s holiday bigger and better! We’re already putting plans in place to fundraise for our next trip, and, with your help, we hope to take even more people with us in 2017!

We can’t thank you enough for making our holiday possible and extend our warmest regards from the entire VALUES team.
