Asante and Zawadi would like to appreciate our contributors for the partnership we have enjoyed over the years. One of the womens' organisations namely Uganda Network on Law, Ethics and HIV AIDs Uganet, agreed to be host and mentor of the women beneficiaries.
Uganet may appear on Global Giving in their own right as Uganet or under International Community of Women Living with HIV Aids in East Africa ICWEA. Please look out for the project on Global Giving under Uganet or under ICWEA.

Land handover from ASANTE and ZAWADI to UGANET
July 30, 2013 in Ntinda, Old Kira Rd
In a joint partnership between UGANET and ASANTE and ZAWADI 2010 U ltd to champion justice and dignity of the abused and marginalized w...omen and Girls, “ a land project” was secured in which approximately 120 acres of land was purchased in Kayunga District in 2005.
The purpose of the project is to settle women survivors of domestic violence on an acre of land each in Kyaunga District, to settle them in a model settlement and Use the model settlement to attract policy makers to visit and hear the women share stories for policy change. To achieve this, UWONET the implementing partner at the time on behalf of Asante and ZAWADI in 2005 carried out a land awarding ceremony at Mengo where 50 beneficiaries who are survivors of domestic violence were identified to receive land in the designated area in Kayunga .
The ceremony was also to lobby and advocate for various stakeholders support for the enactment of the Domestic relations Bill especially through clan and customary kingdoms as well as to use the model homes and survivors of domestic violence to lobby the government to enact the Domestic Relations ill, by using clause 65(3) in the Bill. This however, didn’t not materialize as anticipated because of various hitches that include but not limited to the high costs of land surveying and processing of individual titles for each of the beneficiaries. The pilot project therefore, has been transferred to UGANET to take the mantle and try to harmonize the plan and implement the intent of the program.
UGANET agrees to take over management of the resources vested in Asante and or their board members on behalf of Asante and Zawadi and to mentor some of the interested beneficiaries to take over management of their resources and to participate in Law and policy reforms together with other human rights organizations. UGANET further agrees to work with Asante to set up a system where various interested organizations may communicate, participate and be accountable to the beneficiaries, organizational representatives and to each other in an environment of respect for each others’ sovereignty and dignity of domestic violence survivors involved.
Asante has officially handed over management of property vested in them or their board members for the benefit of domestic violence survivors to UGANET as in a memorandum of understanding reached between the two organizations on 18th July 2013, and an official handover on 30th July 2013 at the UGANET Kampala Secretariat at 3pm.
This project therefore taking full course will help to strengthen the role of the law in settling conflict and its availability to the populace. This, UGANET will undertake as a fulfillment of our pledge to society to ensure respect of human rights and ensure that we all live a dignified life irrespective of our past.
