The month of April, we continued to monitor, weed and grow more food according to the season.
We had 53 families who were 100% active. The farm has 95% women and the rest are men. Our goal is to increase the total number of men at the firm as that will help fill the gap of where men can do the heavy side of the farming while the women continue to monitor and nature.
Activities for the month of April included but not limited to:
(i) Weeding of 2 acres of beans
(ii) Weeding two banana plantations a total of 4 acres
(iii) Harvesting sweet potatoes which were delivered at the school on throughout the month of April
(iv) Harvesting cassava which also served the school and still continues to be served
(v) Planting cabbage in the Green House.
Other progress
- Good progress of fruit plants- especially Avocado (these were planted as wind breakers due to Global Warming and the changes and they will also be great snacks for the children once the trees start baring fruit.
Below is a sample of how the food was distributed from the farm to the school. Note that the posho is the powder processed from the maize (corn) freshly grown at the farm. This process is a value addition concept and we plan to 1 day own our own processing machine to cut that cost since we have to take the actual corn to a third party for processing into the posho powder.
Date Food Item Quantity in Kgs Duration
4/4/2023 Sweet potatoes 100 One week

This food supply progress is a great indicator and we hope to keep rising to the occassion.
