Dear Kranti Supporters,
It’s been an activity-filled couple of weeks at Kranti, as always. Unfortunately, one of the Revolutionaries who returned from camp came down with Chikungunya (!!), which required several days in the hospital and many injections – she is recovering. On a more positive note, a library opened up across the street from us! The Revolutionaries get one book for a week, but their visits have been almost daily. The youngest Revolutionary also celebrated her birthday recently, for which we visited a nearby park and had an epic water fight. On the 16th, we will be visiting Prithvi Theatre to watch “Lekin Phir Bhi,” a play inspired by the recent spate of honor killings in India and Pakistan – thanks to all of you for making each and every one of these things possible: healthcare, library dues, birthdays and theater!
In other exciting news, Al Jazeera English will be running a documentary series on eight activ
ists from eight different countries, and they chose to feature Kranti’s work for India! We haven’t committed due to the issues we face in working with minors, but it is still exciting to be chosen. Also, Trina is currently in Wales attending the Commonwealth Local Government Conference, where she will be presenting in front of India’s major policymakers regarding the challenges that NGOs face when working with governmental agencies.
Lastly, in case you hadn’t heard through Global Giving, 16 March is a matching day where contributions will be matched at 30% by GG. Please consider making a small donation that will benefit Kranti 30% extra – and we’ve decided to use the 30% extra funds for something we’ve been wanting for months: books for teens that address serious topics but are at an easier reading level. For example, this book called “Survivors,” 2nd grade reading level, is about teens who have survived homelessness, racism, natural disasters and other challenging circumstances.
So please remember – any contributions you make on the 16th will accomplish 30% extra in the form of reading-level appropriate books for the Revolutionaries! Thanks in advance for your contributions on this day and for your ongoing support.
