This quarter, our Child Protection Programme continued to provide safety for children and teenagers through a range of tailored interventions. Our 26 new community safeguarding officers have been working hard to deliver activities and create safe spaces for children to thrive. A key highlight this quarter was seeing our new girls’ football team in action! We’re so excited to share more updates with you soon about the impact of this initiative.
This quarter:
- 32 girls and 64 boys regularly attended our Football Project.
- 3,214 meals were served through our Community Feeding Project.
- 789 children regularly attended our Saturday Kids Clubs.
- 3 children were rescued from abandonment and/or abuse through our Ewafe Project.
- 1 child was successfully placed with a foster family and 8 children were reintegrated with loving families through our Ewafe Project.
- 40 children in conflict with the law were supported with legal guidance and representation - this is almost half of the total number of cases supported in 2025!
Rebuilding families through our Ewafe Project
In 2020, siblings Joseph* (8), Haroon* (14), Hamza* (14), Amani* (16) and Hazel* (17) became homeless after their father abandoned the family and sold their home. Moving between relatives who were unable to provide long-term care for them, the siblings were forced to beg for food and money to survive. Later that year, they were referred to the Ewafe Project, where they were able to stay together in a safe home.
In February 2026, the children were successfully reunited with their grandfather, who thanked Kids Club Kampala for the care and educational support provided to the children during their stay at the Ewafe home.

John* grew up without parental care, but with support from The Mango Tree Kenya, he was able to complete his secondary education. Wanting to give back to his community, he began volunteering as an office assistant at a local hospital. Here, he has developed computer and communication skills while gaining confidence in a professional environment.
He shared: “This journey has helped me find direction. I now know where I’m going and why it matters.”

Sofia's story
Sofia* recently graduated from our Tailoring and Knitting Project. This is her story:
“I joined the Tailoring and Knitting Project last year. Following graduation, I was awarded with a certificate and a tailoring machine to kick start my business. Working from home has been a great start. I mend clothing, and make dresses and school uniforms. It’s been life-changing, I am now able to support myself, contribute to the house needs, and send some little money to my parents in the village. I'm also saving towards renting a shop to grow my business. I am very grateful for the opportunity I was given by KCK."
