Dear friends,
This is such an exciting time of the year! The Kids Garden and greenhouse have been planted and everything is growing like weeds. We have cucumbers, broccoli, kale, squash, green beans, basil, lettuce, and eggplant growing in the greenhouse. We also have onions, tomatoes, corn, watermelon, squash, and parsley growing in the garden.
Our focus on health and nutrition has also started to take an effect on the children at the Kids School. We recently took a poll of the children in grades Kindergarten through 5th. We asked, "What is your favorite food?" To our surprise, 80% of them said fresh fruit or vegetables!
Kids Summer Camp has begun and will run through August 10th. For the next six weeks, over 2000 kids in Kids Corp's network of academic summer programs will spend four days each week in school with our certified teachers and college student mentors; learning the critical fundamentals of literacy, math, science, history and life skills. The students will be able to put all of their science and math to work in the garden and use hands on exercises to bring the connections to life. Throughout the summer, we will also teach healthier ways to eat and the importance of exercise.
As always, thank you so much for your generosity! We are blessed to have this critical piece of knowledge at our finger tips and available to our kids!
Best regards,
