We would like to express our gratitude for your contributions towards Elize, a community worker for Bergsig Ondeursteunings Groep (BOG) in Bersig, Sprinkbok, Northern Cape. The organisation offers a basket of services to their community including HIV/AIDS support, life skills, awareness raising, psychosocial support and more.
Elize and her organisation previously received a Mama Mimi oven through funding RDSP received, and have since been receiving vouchers thanks to the generous donations received through GlobalGiving.
The organisation as they are fortunate enough to have an annual contract with the Goegap Nature Reserve but they did not have the funds to fulfil their commitments there, therefore the voucher received from RDSP was perfectly timed to assist them in launching their contract. Every year the organisation is invited to run the kiosk and curio shop at the nature reserve in their peak time. At the kiosk they sell food which serves as an income generation activity for the organisation and within each season they can serve between 500 and 1000 individuals. People visit the nature reserve to see the flowers as well as to hike and attend sports events. This year they used the voucher to buy ingredients to make sausage rolls and sold 200, generating enough income to fund the remainder of the contract’s cooking. This contract gives the organisation not only income from the food sales but also great exposure and marketing.
For example, following the contract this year they were asked to cater for another group of ecotourists in October. They were able to use the Mama Mimi oven to provide pizzas for the groups which were very well received.
Elize explained that without the voucher which enabled them to buy the ingredients they needed to make the sausage rolls in the beginning of the contract they would not have been able to provide the food and they would not have made the contacts for the further catering opportunity either. Elize indicated that she was extremely grateful for the voucher and the timing.
Thank you for your support which enables these much needed services to continue in our communities.
