“Hunger and malnutrition are on the rise in various parts of the Eastern Cape. Sadly so many children have lost their lives. Nine children died in the Butterworth hospital due to malnutrition. The good news is that malnutrition can be prevented and the effects can be reversed with good nutrition.” 13 April 2022, IOL News.
The Kusile Women Empowerment project started their soup kitchen because of the requests from the GBV clients they see as well as from the clinic patients who defaulted on their treatments due to a lack of meals in their homes.
The main aim of the soup kitchen is to enable chronic patients, victims of gender-based violence, neglected and abused children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and the poor to have at least one nutritious meal a day. Although it does not
