This is a rare opportunitiy. Gordon Clem Academy is a new project of Expanding Opportunities. A secondary school was built in the heart of pastoralist northern Kenya. As there is little income in the area but many goats, cowsm sheep, donkey and camels, we built in a barter system for payment of the necessary school fees.
One day a man came with a bery sweet healthy goat. After having the goat for a few days we realized she might be a valluable milking goat, with the toughness of the "bush" goat and the milk production of the dairy breed she resembles and if not she might be a good breeders of mixed dairy goat.
As the children at JWHS, our children's home had all 5 of their dairy goats stolen last October, they were anxious to begin again.
So lady made a long journey. The first step was to get a letter of no objection from the Government veterinarian where the children's home was. Then get a letter of transport from Isiolo. Then one fine Saturday we gave First Lady, the rear of the G wagon as her mobile home. She settled in a lot better than expected and looked out the window to see where she had been instead of where she was going. When the police stopped us at the road blocks she made herself known with a freiendly bleat and I was very glad we had all the proper paperwork. When she arrived in Mangu, She at first wrinkled up her nose at the tall lush grass and lucerne seeking the dry thorny acadia. But in two days she was ruminating the rich grasses of her predecessors.
Soon the children will be drinking goat milk again and thereby lowering the cost of their food budget so we can assist other children.
