Kenya - empowering women and orphans

Through Transformational Community Development, the Isiolo Empowerment Center provides training to students to help further their skills in tailoring, dressmaking, hairdressing and more. This training allows them to start their own businesses and be self-employed. Currently, there are 15 students who are taking the tailoring and dress making course.

One of the students in the school is named Rose. She joined the training school earlier this year. Upon her arrival, she reported that she came from a very poor background. The family could not even afford a single meal a day. She was infested with jiggers and had a lot of personal turmoil with her family. GHNI located her and helped her enroll in the Empowerment Center, so that she could help herself and in return help her family who was languishing in poverty.

Rose has successfully demonstrated her hardworking skills and, as of now, she has learned how to be independent. She is no longer infested with jiggers. She uses her time outside of the Empowerment Center to work in the tailoring shops, helping with clothing repair and making her own clothes. She now earns a modest income, which also helps provide food for her siblings and helps her take care of her whole family. 

She is very grateful for the support from GHNI and all those who continue to help this center grow.. Because of gracious donors and the commitment of transformation, young women in Isiolo County are being empowered. The students at the Empowerment Center are all grateful because they have been given a second chance at life. They are so thankful that they have a family in GHNI who are ready to fight for them and empower them.
