Antonella at her sewing machine
Life has changed drastically for everyone. It’s no longer the usual way of life but a lot of confusion and uncertainty about what the future might look like.
The women of the Empowerment Center took the initiative to give help to the needy and unprivileged in the community by donating face masks to many who cannot afford to buy their own. This is one of the projects the women at the Empowerment Center worked on – creating face masks, and helping the community protect itself against COVID-19.
Antonella is one of the students at the Empowerment Center, she is among those who helped make masks for the community. When we finished, she took her knowledge back to her village, where she is making and selling masks to the people at a lower cost so that every member of the family will be safe and protected. On one hand she is now making an income for herself and her family. On the other hand she is helping her community to practice safeguards around the pandemic affecting our world. The village elder acknowledged her effort and contacted the Kenya GHNI office to thank them for helping to transform their village.
The Center continues to grow. Our hope is that we will be able to expand and include other programs like hairdressing by January 2020. In addition to skills, we continue to help with education. Four candidates from the Center will sit for their National Student Exams which have been postponed because of Coronavirus, but could possibly be scheduled in late November or December 2020.
Through this Center GHNI is excited to give dignity to women and children by empowering and changing the future for poor young girls; to bring education and help which restores hope for their families. The photo below shows the students pride in their efforts by wearing the uniforms they made themselves as they prepare to make school uniforms which can be sold in the market.
Thank you for your continued support in making this possible!
