November has been an extremely busy month across IUCN, especially focused on the UN Climate Change Conference and the many ways in which protected and conserved areas relate to this issue.
November 12-19 also marked the third anniversary of the IUCN World Parks Congress 2014 and the Promise of Sydney. In this issue of the newsletter, you can read about a new commitment by Germany’s Federal Agency for Nature Conservation to PAs and World Heritage, the exciting news of the approval by Council of the Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas Standard, and the release of World Heritage Outlook 2 documenting the increasing threat of climate change to these sites. PANORAMA was also expanded to deal with Agriculture and Biodiversity Solutions. Finally, a new edition of PARKS Journal came out last night….with papers relating to the SDGs, the Aichi Target 11, and the hot topic of “other effective area-based conservation measures” all set to contribute to the debates in Montréal in December at the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Best wishes

Director, IUCN Global Protected Areas Programme
