Dear Friends
The Keeping Village Families Safe from Malaria project continues to support families in Namakwa and surrounding communities as they face the ongoing risk of malaria. Recent rains have created favorable conditions for mosquitoes, making malaria prevention especially important for children and vulnerable families.
Karitas Relief Mission is working with community members to strengthen practical malaria prevention measures. Families are learning how to keep their surroundings clean, remove stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed, and make consistent use of mosquito nets and other available protective measures.
Parents and caregivers are also paying closer attention to children who develop symptoms such as fever, weakness, or other signs associated with malaria. Early medical attention is being emphasized to help prevent complications and support timely treatment.
Current Progress
- Families are receiving practical information on malaria prevention.
- Households are working to reduce stagnant water and other mosquito breeding areas.
- Community members are making greater use of mosquito nets and other protective measures.
- Parents and caregivers are paying closer attention to possible malaria symptoms in children.
- Karitas Relief Mission continues to monitor malaria-related needs within the community.
Challenges
Heavy rains continue to increase mosquito activity and create additional breeding areas. Some families also have limited access to mosquito-prevention supplies and healthcare services.
Next Steps
The project will continue supporting household malaria-prevention activities and community awareness. The team will also identify families requiring additional assistance and strengthen links with local health services so that suspected malaria cases can receive timely attention.
Through these efforts, the project aims to help families reduce malaria risks and create healthier, safer village communities.
