Introduction
Menstrual hygiene is a critical issue for girls and women around the world, but it is especially challenging in low-income countries like Uganda. Many girls in Uganda do not have access to affordable and safe sanitary products, which can lead to a number of negative consequences, including missing school, social isolation, and health problems.
Project Overview
This project aims to provide 800 vulnerable girls in Wakiso District, Uganda with reusable sanitary towels and underwear. The goal is to help girls stay safe and stay in school during their menstrual periods.
Progress Update
Unfortunately, the campaign to raise funds for this project has had a slow start, with only $120 (£98.00) raised to date. However, the project team is still hopeful that they will be able to start the project in readiness for the first term of the next academic year in February 2024.
Next Steps
Over the next few months, the project team will restart the marketing campaign to increase awareness and donations. The team will also work to identify and secure partnerships with other organizations that are working on menstrual hygiene issues in Uganda.
Conclusion
The project team is committed to providing reusable sanitary ware to 800 vulnerable girls in Wakiso District, Uganda. The team is grateful for the support that has been received to date and looks forward to raising the remaining funds needed to make this project a reality.
