Stop the Cycle Before It Starts-Keep Girls in Sch

By Elizabeth Elachi | Project Leader

Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and shape her own future. Yet for thousands of girls in Benue State, Nigeria, that future is being threatened by poverty, displacement, conflict, and deeply rooted social inequalities. Instead of sitting in classrooms, many girls are forced to leave school early to help support their families, enter child labour, or face the devastating reality of early marriage. Once a girl drops out of school, the chances of returning become increasingly slim, trapping her in a cycle of poverty that can continue for generations.

The scale of the challenge is enormous. According to international estimates, Nigeria has one of the world's largest populations of out-of-school children, with more than 10 million children currently out of school. Girls living in conflict-affected communities face even greater barriers, including insecurity, financial hardship, and limited access to safe learning opportunities. In Benue State, repeated violence and displacement have made education even more difficult for countless families.

But there is hope—and you can be part of it.

At GoGreen Environmental Health Sustainability Initiatives, we believe that sports can do far more than entertain. Sport has the power to transform lives. Through our Keep Girls in School Through Sports project, we are creating safe spaces where girls gain confidence, develop leadership skills, receive mentorship, strengthen their academic engagement, and rediscover the joy of learning. Football and other school-based sporting activities become powerful tools that encourage regular school attendance, improve self-esteem, foster teamwork, and inspire girls to believe that they are capable of achieving great things.

When you make a donation, you are investing in much more than a sporting event. You are helping provide educational materials, sports equipment, mentoring sessions, life-skills education, and opportunities that keep vulnerable girls connected to their schools and hopeful about their futures. Every contribution helps remove one more barrier standing between a girl and her education.
