At age 13, Amina’s future seemed all but written. Her family, displaced by conflict, struggled to make ends meet. School became a luxury they could no longer afford, and Amina was expected to help at home. Each day, she watched her dreams of becoming a teacher fade.
Then, Amina’s school joined the Keep Girls in School Through Sports project. The promise of football—a game she’d always wanted to play—caught her attention. With encouragement from the new mentors and coaches, Amina returned to school. She quickly discovered that sports were more than just a way to play—they were a gateway back to learning, friendship, and self-belief.
Through football, Amina learned about teamwork, leadership, and resilience. The program’s life-skills sessions helped her find her voice and set goals for her future. Her parents, once skeptical, noticed her newfound confidence and commitment.
Now, Amina is not only back in school, but she’s also captain of her football team. She dreams again of becoming a teacher—this time, with the determination and support to make it happen. She says, “Football gave me hope. School gave me a future. I am grateful for both.”
