65% of Kenyan girls can't afford or access sanitary pads, resulting in 40 school days lost each year. In Meru, period poverty fuels a 'Triple Threat' SGBV, HIV, and teenage pregnancy in an effort to secure necessary funds to manage menstrual health. This drives school dropouts and stolen futures. We're changing that. Each Dignity Pack contains 6 reusable pads, lasting 2 years. We're putting them in the hands of 5,000 Meru girls so they stay safe, stay in school, and keep their futures intact.
65% of Kenyan girls cannot afford sanitary pads, resulting in up to 40 missed school days per year. In Meru, Kenya, teenage pregnancy rates hit 24%, well above the 15% national average. In the first 9 months of 2025 alone, 7,546 adolescent pregnancies were recorded, and more SGBV cases, with period poverty as one key driver. Period poverty exposes girls to sexual exploitation, early marriage, and dropout. This project distributes 5000 girls with dignity packs every year to end this cycle.
We are distributing 5,000 Dignity Packs to the most vulnerable girls in Meru, Kenya. Each pack contains 6 reusable sanitary towels lasting up to 2 years to eliminate recurring costs that make disposables unaffordable. Every pack is paired with menstrual health education for girls and boys, reducing stigma and building supportive school environments. Pads are produced locally by women in our enterprise, creating dignified livelihoods alongside dignified periods.
5,000 girls reclaim up to 40 school days each year, collectively, 200,000 school days annually. Girls stay in class, finish their education, and break the cycle linking period poverty to pregnancy, SGBV, early marriage and dropouts. Local women earn sustainable incomes by producing every pack. Over two years, this programme plants the seeds of a generation of educated, economically independent women who will reshape Meru County's future and enhance gender equality.
