As the typhoon season once more descends on metro manila, we are reminded yet again of “ONDOY” and how torrential rains can wreak havoc on an unprepared nation.
When “YOLANDA” made its landfall on the island of Coron, in the Calamian Islands of Palawan, the devastation affected some 13,000 school children whose families were left homeless and whose schools were destroyed.
Thankfully, with the relief aid coming in, families have been reunited and schools rebuilt. But more than that, lessons have been learned - BEING PREPARED for disaster can mitigate destruction!
This coming August 14-16, Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. will be conducting a workshop with the principals and 2 master teachers of some 17 schools in Coron that will have as its theme, Disater Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). The training will focus on effective learning approaches using multi medial learning resources which are accessed on-air on Knowledge Channel TV or thru on-demand packages.
The above is only possible because of your continued generosity and support to the Global Giving Project.
We will not stop our efforts until we attain our objective - that 38 Coron Schools will be given the teachers training on LEEP and on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management to ensure that the children of Coron are educated about climate change adaptation and become disaster-resilient.
A Gift of Knowledge is in your hands.
HELP FILIPINO KIDS LEARN BETTER AND SURVIVE DISASTERS.
