Challenge

In Zambia, cultural myths falsely associate cats with witchcraft, leading to widespread cruelty and neglect. Cats are often burned, stoned to death, buried alive, or thrown into rivers, causing immense suffering. This results in a growing population of stray and vulnerable cats lacking food, shelter, and care. The lack of awareness about humane treatment worsens the issue, leaving many cats in inhumane and life-threatening conditions.

Solution

This project will create a safe haven for stray and vulnerable cats by purchasing land and building secure shelters. Rescued cats will receive food, veterinary care, and a safe environment to thrive. The refuge will also serve as a center for community education, dispelling harmful myths about cats and promoting humane treatment. Outreach programs will encourage individuals to bring stray or neglected cats to the refuge rather than harming them, creating a sustainable solution to reduce abuse an

Long-Term Impact

This project will foster a culture of compassion and responsibility toward cats in Zambia, reducing abuse and cruelty. By providing a safe haven and advocating humane treatment, it will inspire societal change and similar initiatives. Rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming cats will create a sustainable environment where they are treated with dignity. The project will improve coexistence between humans and animals, welfare standards, and transform community attitudes, ensuring a lasting impact.
