Kate's Haven - A Refuge for Stray Cats

By Geoffrey Mulenga | Project Leader

Dear Friends and Supporters,

In the last three months, Kate’s Haven has continued to be a sanctuary of healing and hope for stray, abandoned, and injured cats in our community. Thanks to your continued support, we were able to rescue 21 new cats, provide emergency medical care to 12, and successfully rehome 9 into loving, forever homes.

One story that stands out is that of a tiny calico kitten we named Pumpkin. She was found trembling under a parked car during a rainstorm, severely malnourished and with an injured leg. Our volunteer team rushed her to our partner vet clinic, where she underwent treatment and began a slow but remarkable recovery. Today, Pumpkin is not only walking again—she’s thriving. She has found a warm home with an elderly woman who says the kitten saved her from loneliness. It’s in these moments that your generosity becomes more than just support—it becomes a lifeline.

Beyond individual rescues, we’ve made progress on improving the Haven’s shelter space. We’ve constructed three new insulated cat huts, updated the quarantine area for sick rescues, and installed a new drainage system to keep the grounds dry during Zambia’s rainy season. These upgrades mean a safer, healthier environment for every feline we care for.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for our “Paws for Hope” matching campaign next month—a chance to double the impact of your gifts. But today, we simply want to say thank you. Every whisker twitch, every healed paw, every loud purr is because of you.

Warm regards,
The Team at Kate’s Haven – A Refuge for Stray Cats
