Summary

The Kabul Education University Health Clinic (KEUHC) provides vital medical, dental, and counseling care to thousands of students, faculty, and families-future Afghan educators-while training local health workers amid severe shortages. By replacing fire-damaged dental equipment and delivering oral health seminars, it fights preventable diseases in a low-access crisis zone, building healthier, more resilient lives.

Challenge

Afghanistan faces severe health challenges. 3.7 million children under five are expected to suffer acute malnutrition in 2026 (UNICEF), while untreated dental caries affect ~45.8% of children aged 1-9 (WHO). Funding gaps and access shortages leave 14.4 million people needing essential health services, raising risks of preventable illnesses for children, students, and families. KEUHC provided essential services and training to over 4,500 patients and health professionals in 2025.

Solution

The Kabul Clinic (KEUHC) provides accessible essential medical, dental, and counseling services to students, faculty, and their families who often lack reliable care amid Afghanistan's shortages and crises. Additionally, KEUHC conducts hands-on training, such as basic life support and CPR classes for faculty (with active practice on adult/pediatric mannequins), equipping participants with essential emergency skills to respond to preventable illnesses and build community resilience.

Long-Term Impact

KEUHC tackles Afghanistan's critical health shortages-only 10 key health workers per 10,000 people (far below global needs)-by delivering on-campus care to thousands of students, faculty, and families annually while providing hands-on training to future educators and professionals. This empowers beneficiaries to handle emergencies, promote prevention, and extend healthier practices to families/communities, fostering sustained resilience and better health outcomes nationwide amid ongoing crises.
