Kids in Distressed Situations and Fashion Delivers joined forces to give more than 1,000 school children and family members affected by tornadoes in Moore, OK some extra help with new apparel and home items. JourneyChurch.tv in Norman, OK and OklahomaStrong created a fun family event on July 25, 2013 so that the children of Briarwood and Plaza Towers elementary schools could have the year-end yearbook signing and celebration that they missed when the schools were destroyed.
Burlington Coat Factory provided 10 pallets of new merchandise and BOBS from SKECHERS and Shoe Carnival helped with 3,000 pairs of children’s shoes; company employees also volunteered to set up and staff the event. The merchandise that remained afterward and 200 fifty-dollar Burlington gift cards were given to local charities serving tornado victims in neighboring Pottawatomie County and the Oklahoma City area. Thanks to all of our partners and many, many volunteers who made this event a success. K.I.D.S. and our partner charity, Fashion Delivers, has distributed nearly $7 million worth of new merchandise to partners helping Oklahoma tornado victims rebuild.
