Digital Skills and Mentorship at Wavecrest
![]()
One of the key aims of our project at Wavecrest College for Hospitality in Nigeria is to expand digital inclusion and improve employability among young women facing significant barriers to opportunity in Nigeria.
We're pleased to share the story of Bernice, who is studying for a Diploma in Catering and Hospitality Management at Wavecrest.
‘‘I have learned how to use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint effectively, and I’ve also gained an understanding of Excel. These digital skills have empowered me to operate a computer independently, without needing to rely on others for support.
One challenge I faced before was affording internet data, with free internet connection at school, I do not have this challenge anymore. My knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel was particularly valuable when I was writing my National Diploma project, and I’ve also found these skills extremely useful in my current internship placement.
Thank you very much for this wonderful initiative, it has made a real difference in my life.’’
And as told by Veronica, Project Coordinator at Wavecrest:
"For many of our scholarship students, the world of IT was initially unfamiliar. However, the digital skills training has opened their minds to new possibilities. They now understand the value of this knowledge and are applying it in practical ways—designing beautiful flyers for their menus, typing assignments, and submitting them via email or Google Drive. I’ve seen a noticeable increase in their confidence levels.
Your support has had a real and lasting impact. Given the current economic climate in Nigeria, access to this kind of training would have been out of reach for many of these students for years to come. We are deeply grateful."
