Closing report

By Sonia Esteves | Institutional Relations

We created this project to strengthen IPTI Brazil to keep developing Socia Technologies to break the cycle of poverty in underserved communities in Brazil.

IPTI (Brazil) is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable social, cultural, and economic development in remote and impoverished communities of Northeast Brazil. IPTI promotes development and social transformation through innovative solutions in primary education, entrepreneurship, and essential health.  IPTI is the Portuguese acronym for “Instituto de Pesquisas em Tecnologia e Inovação” (translated as Institute for Research in Technology and Innovation).

IPTI is unique among development NGOs:  Its primary attribute is that it designs, tests, and implements programs that can be scaled and repeated in other communities; Its principal activity is in addressing non-cognitive development during early childhood, which is a leading factor in creating positive educational outcomes in science and language; and finally, IPTI designs programs that use the entrepreneurial talents and resources within the community to help the community to become economically sustainable. Creating tools, not dependence, is the most cost-effective approach to development, and IPTI is at the forefront of this philosophy.

IPTI (U.S.) is a registered 501(3)I corporation established to support and augment the activities of IPTI in Brazil financially. IPTI is managed by an (8) member board, who receive no compensation and contribute annually to IPTI (U.S.). In addition to funding costs related to initial research related to new projects, IPTI (U.S.) is helping to fund the construction of a model public school in Santa Luzia.

Together, IPTI (Brazil) and IPTI (U.S.) create an outstanding value proposition for donors who wish to support the creation and implementation of methodologies that produce sustainable development in poor communities.

Unfortunately, the amount raised for this project was meager, and we decided to close i. Of course, we will keep following our mission but with other fundraising tools and strategies.
