As we head into October, our preschool and kindergarten students are winding down for the year. It is hard to believe that our second year is coming to a close. This year six students will graduate from our Kindergarten and make the move into first grade. It has been incredible watching these students grow over the past two years. When the students started two years ago, many of them did not know how to hold a pencil. Now, they can read short sentences and identify two digit numbers.
To finish the year, our students are learning about the universe. Some of them have never left Joconal. They had no idea what a planet was. It has been very exciting teaching them about the sun, moon, and planets. We’ll be sure to share more about their reaction to space as we move through the curriculum.
Before beginning our lesson on space, we taught the students about various community helps professions. The kids learned about firefighters, doctors, nurses, and teachers just to name a few. We were excited to share this with our young students, so they could begin to think about what they want to be when they grow up. Our student, Abigail, was amazed to learn about doctors. She told us that she wants to be a doctor when she grows up. Knowing Abigail, we have no doubt that she will be an incredible doctor, and we are blessed to support her along the way.
