DIMA has completed its project with the Communaite des Handicapes Locomoteurs de la Commune Niamey II. The project began last spring with the construction of an atelier for the association of polio survivors. Equipment including sewing machines and a skiver was purchased for the group and in July, 9 months of training began in tailoring and leatherworking. The training finished this March for a total of 36 tailoring students and 15 leatherworking students. An event was held in April with friends, family and community members to celebrate the completion of the project.
DIMA also continues training a group of young people in tailoring and leatherworking at its main center in Niamey, as well as weaving students in Niamey and in two villages. A large loom purchased from a workshop in Burkina Faso has now been assembled and training on the use of the loom is planned for the summer.
