The Learning Center will now be located at the Piedra Parada Public School, about 100 meters from the original location.
It is General Elections year in Guatemala, and a small group of people tried to leverage this moment, blocked the construction of the Center, and demanded we ask the mayor to improve the soccer field so we could set the Learning Lab . So despite the previous consent and written approval from the mayor, local authorities and oficial launch, we had to make a change in location to safeguard the team and equipment.
This was a blessing in disguise because this motivated us to look for an alternative and were pleased to hear that the Public School of the community would like to have the Learning Center within their facilities. We drafted a Memorandum of Understanding to be clear on the terms of use of the Learning Center, and there is a meeting scheduled this week for a final discussion and approval. This new location will allow the children of the Public School of Piedra Parada to have direct Access to the computer lab, and reduce the risk of walking to the original location.
Meanwhile, more laptops were sent to our partners to continue on supporting the youth with tutoring.
We are also excited for having received Starlink which will be used at the site for accessing high-speed internet for the programs.
