Provide a quality education for girls in Liberia

GEM-Liberia and the Jennifer Albee Enrichment School are grateful for the continued generosity of GlobalGiving donors and partners. Your support is helping girls from underserved communities near Monrovia access safe, affordable, high-quality education and build the academic, vocational, and life skills they need to thrive.

During this reporting period, May 14 to September 10, 2026, the school completed its sixth year of operation and held its fifth graduation exercise. Student outcomes were strong: four ninth graders advanced to grade 10, four sixth graders advanced to grade 7, three early childhood students advanced to the next level, and 90% of students progressed successfully while the remaining 10% attended summer classes.

Academic results were especially encouraging. All 11 students who sat for national exams passed, demonstrating the strength of GEM-Liberia’s foundation-first teaching approach and the quality of instruction at the Jennifer Albee Enrichment School.

GEM-Liberia’s impact also expanded beyond the school campus. Through the Future Teachers Project, founder Davidetta Togba Cassell supported more than 700 teachers nationwide, including 450 teachers in urban Liberia and 250 teachers in rural communities. This work strengthens classrooms across the country and reinforces GEM-Liberia’s role in improving education quality.

The school is also preparing for growth. Renovation and construction work has begun to improve the learning environment and expand capacity for the 2026/2027 academic year. A new structure is underway that will serve five classes, from 5th through 9th grade, once completed.

This period also brought important recognition for GEM-Liberia’s leadership. Madam Cassell was appointed National Chairperson by the National Association of Liberia School Principals to lead the 2027 National Education Symposium, creating a meaningful opportunity to elevate GEM-Liberia’s voice in national education reform.

Thanks to donor support, GEM-Liberia continues to provide girls with access to education, hope, and opportunity. Each contribution helps students remain in school, succeed academically, and prepare for futures as leaders in their families and communities.
