As the world battles COVID 19, among others young people are also playing an important role at the frontlines of COVID response by supporting their communites overcome the crisis and ComMutiny rests strong in its resolve to nuture resilience and hope among them.
To maintain the continuum of the 'Samvidhan Live! Be a Jagrik journey', ComMutiny - The Youth Collective has digitally adapted the curriculum to simulate, as far as possible, the on-ground journey of carrying out self and community social action projects.
Accordingly, while before the lockdown, Jagrik facilitators were trained in rolling out the 5 week journey on-ground through 'Orientation' and 'Jamghats' facilitated in a physical space, ComMutiny has organized online trainings for the facilitators using Zoom to rollout the journey through the digital medium.
Facilitators have been familiarised with the use of several online tools including - Zoom, Google Meet, Padlet, Mentimeter to name a few, to enable participation and in the process, enhance digital literacy for self and the Jagriks they will work with.
The trainings have included sessions from the existing manual now adapted to the digital medium to demonstrate how these can be facilitated using tools that drive innovation and participation.
A total of 66 youth facilitators from 51 youth organisations from Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Bihar will now embark on a journey to engage with thousands of adolescents and young people in these states. We will also be covering facilitaors from West Bengal, Assam and Uttar Pradesh through this process.
Reflection from the online session by Shalini, Associate Director - Collectivization and Partnerships
We had our first Jagrik Facilitator training for MP and Jharkhand today. The design allowed each one of us to participate and hold it together. Each of the state managers explained how each feature of online tools - googlemeet, zoom, padlet etc work. Honestly, this was a huge learning for us. Having witnessed and participated in several of these online sessions here at ComMutiny, we tried to emulate the way these sessions could be facilitated with minimal disruption.
Jagrik Failitators were quick to respond on the zoom chat, use the reactions feature, use padlet and mentimeter and just have a lot of fun.We facilitated a treasure hunt which allowed for some online excitement too.
Amidst these strange times, we found something that allowed us to regain our energy and understand why we all are here. Creating empowering spaces for young people is something we all have a common love for. And it remained undettered. Today set the bar high not in terms of how new this experience was and how well everyone came together, but through a feeling, of wanting to be together and embracing the new normal.
